September Fishing Outlook

Nick Warrington • Sep 06, 2022

The end of scallop season

Our window for collecting these tasty mollusks is quickly coming to a close. We still have some openings the last week if you're looking to get out one last time. 2022 hasn't been an amazing season like 2021 but there's still some out there for those who put in the swim.

Grouper fishing

Fall is by far the best time of year to target these guys! A wave of grouper push into our shallow waters each year as our water begins cooling off. A new advantage on our charters this year will include having federal reef & pelagic permits. Our charters will no longer be restricted to state waters thus allowing us to fish further out when needed. October is already getting booked heavy. November and December still have plenty of openings

Next year we'll unfortunately be restricted in the gag grouper department. As the 2023 season will only run from September 1st to November 10th. So get them while you can!

Redfish

Early fall is by far the best time of year to target reds. They school up in great numbers to "stage" before they push offshore to spawn. Don't be afraid to use larger baits. Live pinfish, pigfish, and mullet are all great choices. Cut bait will work in a pinch as well.

Snook

Our fall season for these aggressive and great eating predators opens September 1st- November 30th. Found around the mangrove islands, rocky points, and oyster bars. Weedless soft plastics are a great choice as well as freelined live pinfish and shrimp. Be sure to bump up your leader size as their rough mouth/gill plate will slice through lighter leaders we use for sea trout or redfish.
