Scalloping Charters Crystal River Florida

Pile of Crystal River Scallops

Fun for the entire family!

Think of it as an aquatic Easter egg hunt. Scalloping is THE top thing to to in Crystal River during the summer. We even have guests that travel from out of state just to collect these tasty shellfish.

In three to six foot of water scallopers swim or float along the water’s surface searching for these delicious bivalves. Typically found sitting on top of the sea grass or in between the blades of grass.  The hardest part can be spotting them as their shell coloration allows them to camouflage quite well.  Often their “blue eyes" give them away. After spotting the first few guests usually have no issue with finding them.   Once you’ve located one, simply dive down and grab it with your hand (or net) and place it in your mesh bag. If you find one there’s usually a few more nearby!

More than just Scallops!

There's a lot to see on the way out to the scallop grounds. A mini Eco Tour!  Expect to see Manatees, Dolphins, Turtles, Ospreys, Pelicans, Bald Eagles, and Cormorants on the ride out the River.

Once in the water be on the look out for Starfish, Seahorses, Sea Turtles, Conch, Stone Crabs, Octopus among the many species of fish hiding around the plants and corals.

FAQs

Why book a scalloping trip with us?

We provide gear

If you have your own snorkeling gear then great!  If not we have you covered.  Quality Cressi snorkels, masks, and fins are provided. Sanitized after each trip of course. Collection bags and nets (if needed) as well.

Scallop cleaning

We clean your scallops!  Scallop cleaning can be costly if you don't know how to do it  yourself.  And if you do, you understand how time consuming it can be.

Cost

To our knowledge we are the only scalloping operation in town that includes scallop cleaning & snorkeling gear for our scalloping trips!  All at a reasonable rate!

The vessel

The summer heat out there can be brutal.  Most boats lack much needed shade.  But we have a large bimini top to put up when the sun starts cooking.  We also have cushioned seating for the ride in and out. As well as a dive ladder to make going in and out of the boat easy.

Time

With a faster boat we get you out to the grounds quickly.  Giving guests more time in the water.  We offer two 5hr trips a day. AM trips starting at 7AM and PM trips begin at 1PM.
